BELAIRBUS was created in 1979 in response to a desire expressed by AIRBUS
INDUSTRIE to deal with a single partner for each country taking part in
the AIRBUS programmes.
- BELAIRBUS became Associated Partner of AIRBUS INDUSTRIE starting from the A310 programme and after for all the following Airbus Programmes.
- BELAIRBUS supplies as a single source the complete slat-slat track systems (Leading Edge Devices) for A310, A319/A320/A321, A330/A340, A340- 500 / 600 and for the A380.
- BELAIRBUS manages the commercial, financial and administrative aspects of the AIRBUS contracts.
- The industrial activities (development and production) are subcontracted by BELAIRBUS to the following shareholders of BELAIRBUS:
- SONACA, located in Gosselies, manages the research and development and the certification for all the BELAIRBUS supplies and produces the moving slats; SONACA is approved by AIRBUS as the certified technical leader of BELAIRBUS
- ASCO INDUSTRIES, located in Zaventem produces the slat-track mechanism and participates in the research and development of its supplies
- EURAIR, based in Bruges, a subsidiary of the Watteeuw Group within the BMT Group, manufactures the gears, pinions and racks
- The shares of BELAIRBUS are distributed in the amounts of approximately 58% for SONACA, 35% for ASCO INDUSTRIES and 7% for EURAIR in relation with their respective sales. Moreover, SABCA, another Belgian aerospace company, owns one share.
- Since 1979 and until end 2006, BELAIRBUS has achieved a total sales figure of 2.3 B€ which is still expanding.
- Joining the three specific technology expertise of its Partners, BELAIRBUS achieved, by supplying AIRBUS with a complete functional subassembly, a real success story.
